Used and new dirt jump bikes
A dirt jumper is a small, tough hardtail with 26" or 24" wheels, usually a single gear and a short, firm fork, built for jumps, pump tracks and the skatepark. You ride it with the saddle slammed, so it's not a bike for long rides.
What to check on a used dirt jumper
- the welds at the head tube and the rear dropouts, stressed on every landing
- the fork: stanchions without scratches and no knocking under compression
- the chain tensioner or horizontal dropouts, so the chain doesn't come off
- the rear hub and the single sprocket
- the wheels: true rims and well-tensioned spokes
Dartmoor has the most ads on Biklo, followed by Kellys, NS Bikes, Specialized (P.3), Canyon (Stitched) and Octane One. Dirt jumpers often pass from one rider to the next, so ask how much the bike has been used and which parts have been replaced.
