Description
Located in the heart of Sălaj, the Roman Castrum Porolissum, the northernmost defense point of Roman Dacia, hosts what is desired to be the road cycling competition with the greatest growth potential in the region.
The imposing stone silhouette of the Praetoria Gate will rule over the start-finish point, in a road race that runs through enchanting landscapes and historical sites of Sălaj, on county roads 191C, 108A and 108R, through a geographical setting dominated by mountains, hills and valleys. Athletes will have the surprise of pedaling in a race that is far from being a promenade: 115 km for the long tour and 59 km for the short tour, with a maximum elevation of 632 m altitude, with a climb of over 1400 m and a similar descent. From a technical point of view, the route is balanced, without being "accused" of too much climbing or too much flatness. However, we can consider the finish as the highlight of the race, not only in terms of the rather prominent climbing, but also especially due to the picturesque and historical aspect of the finish area.
Traditional Sălăraș cuisine will be present at the end, the organizers ensuring a climate conducive to returning after the effort, in an extremely picturesque panoramic setting, offered by the Via Principalis and the Via Decumana, two Roman roads that will lead you to the Amphitheater - the largest public building of Roman Dacia, built by Emperor Antonius Pius in 157.
