Description
Journey to the Center of the Earth 2015 (CCP) is a cross-country mountain bike competition like no other in Romania and probably not in Europe! This year, CCP is in its second edition and takes place inside the Slănic Prahova salt mine.
Yes, you read that right! You will descend by bike into the mine and ride not only through the tourist area but also through the special access tunnel, a restricted area and, normally, closed to the public.
On February 22, 2015, Sunday, you will have the opportunity to pedal at high speed through the halls of the famous Slanic Prahova salt mine, at a depth of 208 meters. The competition is of the XCO (Cross country Olympic) type, but don't let the title scare you because the event is aimed at "normal" cyclists, who love to get out of the house and ride their bikes in nature.
The route from last year's edition was 3 km long and has been run several times, and this year it is possible that it will undergo some changes. At the end of the allotted time, whoever has completed the most laps wins. Thus, unlike an XCM (Cross Country Marathon) time trial, where you have time to catch your breath, stop at a spring, admire a landscape, XCO competitions are more alert, and the effort you put in must be at high levels from the start. But, in the end, the main goal is not to win at any cost, but to feel good with friends and cycling enthusiasts like you.
And, the best thing is that the salt mine will not be closed to the general public and tourists who accidentally or intentionally visited the mine on Sunday. Then, the other most beautiful fact is that with you, another person of your choice, family or friend, will be able to descend for free in the mine, to encourage and assist you during and after the competition.
Considering that our event has a special status and takes place in a special area, please read the Regulations very carefully and pay close attention to the Program. Competitors will not descend with the normal lift but in an organized group on the access spiral, 208 vertical meters and 3.1 km long, downhill. For this reason, you must strictly respect the detailed Program that we have made available to you.
